Texting is welcome. A short text is enough to start, and we'll reply to set up a proper conversation by phone, video or in person.

What to include in your first message

You don't need to prepare anything, but these four facts make the first conversation far more useful:

  1. Your company and where you're based, plus the cities your trucks actually serve.
  2. What you do commercially: jetting, interceptor service, camera inspection, hydro-excavation, emergency response.
  3. Who pays you now: roughly how revenue splits between one-off calls, repeat customers and contractor work.
  4. The buyer you want more of: restaurants, property managers, strata councils, institutions or contractors.

A sample first text, as a template:

Hi, this is [Your name] from [Company name] in [City]. We do commercial jetting and interceptor service and want more [buyer type] on contract. Can we talk this week?

A sample first email, as a template:

Subject: Commercial drainage marketing for [Company name]

We're a [number]-truck drainage company based in [City], serving [service area]. About [share]% of our revenue is one-off calls. We'd like more scheduled work from [buyer type]. We have / don't have a capability statement. Best time to talk: [days and times].

What happens next

  1. We reply, usually within one business day, to set a time.
  2. First conversation (about 30 minutes). We ask about your work, your crews, your capacity and your buyers. The initial 30-minute consultation is free for eligible trades businesses.
  3. A short written recommendation, including which buyer and service to start with, what it would take, and which plan fits. See pricing for the plans.
  4. Your decision. There's no pressure and no long-term contract. If the timing isn't right, we'll say so.

Before you contact us: a five-minute self-check

If you want to arrive with an answer to the question we always ask, try this. Take last year's invoices and total three numbers: revenue from one-off calls, from repeat customers, and from contractor or project work. If repeat customers are under a third of revenue, you probably have a maintenance-contract opportunity sitting in your own records. If contractor work is high but uneven month to month, hydro-excavation marketing may be the place to start.

Meeting in person or by video

Some owners like to talk at the yard, with the trucks in view; others would rather a 30-minute video call at the end of the day. Both work. Tell us which suits you when you first get in touch, along with two or three times that fit around dispatch. If you'd like your office manager or estimator in the conversation, bring them: they usually know the customer list better than anyone, and the first question we ask is about that list.

A note on what we don't do

We're a marketing and business consulting service. We don't do drainage, sewer, interceptor or excavation work, and we can't send a crew. If you need drain service, please contact a local drainage contractor. We also don't give legal, safety or code-compliance advice; for those, contact the relevant authority or your advisers. Questions about how we work are answered on the FAQ page and the about page.

Frequently asked questions

What are your hours?

Mon–Fri 9–6 Pacific. We usually reply within one business day.

Is texting really fine for a first contact?

Yes. (604) 632-4959 receives texts, and many owners prefer it between jobs. Send a line or two and we'll take it from there.

Do you meet in person?

Yes. Consultations are in person or online by video call, as well as by phone, text and email. Tell us which you prefer.

What happens in the first conversation?

We ask about your revenue mix, your crews and the buyer you'd most like more of. You leave with an honest view of whether marketing contract work makes sense now, whether or not you hire us.
